ETSI in cooperation with the European Emergency Number Association (EENA) organized the second emergency communications interoperability Plugtests™ event held in Europe with the support of ETSI SC EMTEL. This event was located in Sophia-Antipolis from 06 to 10 March 2017.
The concept of "Next Generation 112" (NG112) has been identified as a potential answer to the increasing requirements and demands of content-rich emergency calling.
This second NG112 Emergency Communications Plugtests™ event saw a testing campaign based on the use cases developed by ETSI and EENA and was a unique chance for vendors of emergency communication equipment to test their product against different implementations and scenarios.
While the first NG112 Emergency Communications Plugtest focused on voice and geo-localization, in this second edition, the scope was extended to content-rich emergency calling with existing IMS/RCS services such as:
- video calling
- instant messaging (1:1 chat, group chat)
- file transfer (ex: video,etc…)
Please note that the event was covered by a Non-Disclosure Agreement which set out the terms of a fair and non-discriminatory participation, i.e. vendors were free to publish their attendance to the event, and interoperability results were treated as confidential information.
The benefits for a vendor in participating included a chance to test early implementations in a neutral environment, to validate their understanding of next generation emergency calling requirements as well as a to communicate about and promote the technology.
An event not to be missed, if you want to be sure your products and implementations are fit for the next generation emergency calling requirements.
Registration was open until 16 December 2016.
This activity was supported by the European Commission.
Preparation conference calls
One open preparation conference call was held on 27 September 2016 from 1400 to 1500 CEST (instead of CET), for which the attendance was free and did not necessitate to have registered to the event.
