ETSI organized the fourth ETSI mWT (millimetre Wave Transmission) SDN (Software Defined Network) Plugtests™ event which took place from the 20th to the 24th February 2023. This event was hosted in ETSI, Sophia Antipolis, France.

This edition of the Plugtests event focused on proving the ability of Software Defined Network (SDN) to operate from an end to end service point of view.

Building upon the previous three editions which focused on a standard Northbound Interface (NBI), this fourth event looked at the Southbound Interface (SBI).

The format of the event was lab tests conducted in ETSI premises.

Any microwave (MW) and millimetre wave (mmW) equipment vendor was welcome to participate and should have provided a full domain, including the domain controller and the related MW/mmW equipment (as a single company or in partnership with other companies).

The event was also open to telecom operators wishing to understand the benefits of the SDN technology.

The event focused on the interoperability of the NETCONF south-bound interface (SBI) based on the YANG data models described in ETSI GR mWT 025, Wireless Backhaul Network and Services Automation: SDN SBI YANG models.

The scope of the event covered two use-cases described in ETSI GR mWT 025:

  • Use Case 1: Network and services auto-discovery: The application detects the network elements, their topology and interconnection, and the services already provisioned
  • Use Case 2: End-to-End Layer 2 Service Provisioning: An E-LINE service is configured end-to-end, traversing a chain of different Vendors’ equipment.

REGISTRATION

Registration was free and open to all.

Preparatory work was achieved and organizations who wanted to participate in the event were requested to also participate in the event preparation.

Participants who joined the mWT Plugtests Programme during the last mWT Plugtests events remain on the dedicated mailing list and received invitations to the conference calls on this mailing list.

Those who have not participated in the last mWT Plugtests event were invited to register and to contact the ETSI Plugtests service at plugtests@etsi.org in order to get access to the preparatory work.

This activity was supported by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).

RoE and NDA

By registering or participating in the preparation for the 4th mWT Plugtests event, new participating organisations joined the mWT Plugtests Programme and were asked to sign the Rules of Engagement (RoE) and Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA).

These RoE and NDA covered the series of remote and face-to-face Plugtests events which are held as part of the mWT Plugtests Programme.

Companies which previously signed the RoE and NDA of the mWT Plugtests Programme when registering to the previous mWT Plugtests event, did not need to sign the RoE and NDA again. Only new organisations joining the Programme received the RoE and NDA for signature.

Upon signature of the RoE and NDA sent to the official contact, the new participants received their credentials for the mWT Plugtests Programme WIKI. Participants who joined the mWT Plugtests Programme at an earlier stage and had already signed the RoE and NDA, kept their credentials which they could reuse for the 4th mWT Plugtests WIKI.

Participants were not allowed to participate to the event if the RoE and NDA of the Programme had not been signed by a representative of their organization.

This activity was supported by the European Commission and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA).
