Back for a sixth year, TelecomTV’s Cloud Native Telco Summit examines how communications service providers are adopting new methodologies, practices and tools to underpin their increasingly cloud-oriented strategies. This year’s expanded summit covers all stages of the cloud-native journey.

We start with the basics, looking at what cloud native is and what it is not – often a source of confusion within the industry. We also provide an introduction to DevOps and explain its function with telco software teams. Day two moves on to look at specific roles within a cloud-native organisation and considers the skills requirements. Whilst last year we looked at platform engineering, this year we turn our focus to FinOps and DevSecOps, which deal with cost management and security within a cloud-native team. Day three wraps up the summit with a debate on the progress of cloud native and its impact on telcos. We discover how the leading cloud-native telcos are benefitting from this cultural change and look ahead to new cloud-native developments and advances.

ETSI is pleased to support the event.Join the event to hear:

  • Francisco-Javier Ramón Salguero, Telefónica, Chair of ETSI Open-Source MANO (OSM), who will join the experts in the Deep Dive Session: Containerised Applications and CNF Workloads, on day three: Thursday 19 September 2024

In this final Deep Dive of this year’s summit, the experts examine the rate of migrating from virtual network functions (VNFs) to cloud-native network functions (CNFs) within the industry. They discuss the implications of this shift and explore key telco use cases that are now fully supported by CNFs, shedding light on the areas where further advancements and enhancements are still required to optimise performance and functionality. They also explore the strategic advantages and operational efficiencies that Kubernetes brings to the table when deploying CNFs, providing a deeper understanding of the tangible benefits experienced by telcos using this technology. The session examines the critical role of optimisation software for diverse multi-cloud environments, and looks at the need to align with stringent 3GPP and industry standards to ensure seamless interoperability and compliance.
  • Diego R. Lopez, Telefónica, Chair of ETSI ZSM ISG, NOC of ETSI ISG NFV in the Panel: Identifying new roles and developing key skills, on day two: Wednesday 18 September 2024

What strategies are telcos employing to acquire the essential skills needed for a successful transition to cloud-native operations and networks? How are telcos adapting to the demands of cloud native and what initiatives are they implementing to equip their workforce with the necessary skills for a cloud-native environment? The panel also highlights the roles of FinOps and DevSecOps in the context of cloud-native telco operations.
  • Dr. Joan Triay, DOCOMO Communications Lab. Europe (DOCOMO Euro-Labs),  ETSI ISG NFV Rapporteur in the Panel: The essential components of a cloud-native strategy, on Day one: Tuesday 17 September 2024

This panel explores the ongoing confusion surrounding cloud native, emphasising the necessity for a precise and universally understood definition within the telecoms industry. It delves into the benefits and challenges of adopting a cloud-native approach, and offers valuable insights and strategies for organisations to effectively navigate this transformative shift. The panel also highlights the intricacies of developing and nurturing a successful cloud-native environment, highlighting the importance of robust infrastructure and operational practices.
