On February 20th ~ 23rd 2024, the ETSI ISG F5G #17th Plenary meeting was held in Sophia Antipolis, France. This is the first plenary meeting of the ISG F5G third term.

In the meeting, the election of F5G Chair and Vice-Chairs for the third term was held. Dr. Olivier Ferveur from POST Luxembourg was appointed the ISG F5G Chair effective immediately. Dr. Marcus Brunner from Huawei Technologies (UK) Co., Ltd. and Dr. Jialiang Jin from China Telecom were appointed the Vice-Chairs (the mandates of F5G Vice-Chairs will start on 17th April 2024).

During the plenary meeting, significant progress was made on the F5G Advanced (F5G-A) standards, including:

• F5G-A Use Cases (UCs): To date, the ISG F5G has developed 17 F5G-A UCs for this Work Item (WI), which is now a stable draft and planned to be published in Q2/2024.
• Requirements and gap analysis: The technical requirements and gap analysis document have been enriched with 8 use case analysis.
• F5G-A architecture: The F5G-A overall architecture, network topology, data plane and control plane interfaces, and the migration from SDH to (fine grain) OTN were agreed.
• F5G-A E2E management: The network energy efficiency management was proposed, which drew great interest and was accepted.
• F5G residential services quality evaluation & classification and measurement: These documents have been finalized and will be published soon.
• F5G-A QoE monitoring: This document is nearing completion. 

The ISG F5G also started the discussion on the possibility of creating a new Testing Working Group (WG) under ISG F5G, to develop testing specifications. During the discussion, the ISG F5G members recognized its benefits and shared some positive views. More detail discussions (e.g., Terms of Reference, working methods, and the collaboration with other organizations such as ETSI CTI) will be made in the next ISG F5G Plenary meetings.

The following ISG F5G Plenary meetings in 2024 will be:

• F5G-F2F#18, May 28th~31st, 2024, will be hosted by POST Luxembourg in Luxembourg.
• F5G-F2F#19, August 26th~30th, 2024, will be held in Sophia Antipolis, France.
• F5G-F2F#20, proposed to be held on November 12th~15th, 2024, hosted by Huawei in China. To be determined.
