ETSI ZSM/F5G Joint Session: Starting the ISG Cooperation on Intelligent Optical Network
The 19th ETSI ISG F5G Plenary meeting was held in Sophia-Antipolis, France from August 27th to 30th 2024. As part of the Plenary meeting, an open session between ISG ZSM and ISG F5G was held. This is the first time these two ISGs have met together.
The ISG ZSM works on defining technical-agnostic end-to-end network and service management and operation framework and key technologies, which enables autonomous and future network. It is the goal of ISG F5G to apply the ZSM framework and its key enabling technologies, such as intent-based networking, Network Digital-Twin (NDT) and closed-loop automation, in the intelligent management and control of the F5G-A optical network.
The experts from ISG ZSM and ISG F5G shared several topics during the joint session:
- Diego Lopez (Chair of ISG ZSM) gave an introduction to the ZSM standard work. Fernando Camacho (Rapporteur of ZSM WI-018, NDT for enhanced ZSM) introduced the ZSM work on Network Digital Twin (NDT);
- Olivier Ferveur (Chair of ISG F5G) gave an introduction to the F5G standard work. Yi Lin (Technical Manager of ISG F5G) introduced the ISG F5G work on optical network management and control;
- Raul Muñoz and Henry Yu (PoC Team members) introduced the ISG ZSM and ISG F5G joint Proof of Concept (PoC) for the F5G Optical Network as a Service. The presentation included the achievements of the previous PoC and the proposal for the new one.
It was agreed that the ISG ZSM and ISG F5G will create a new PoC project, and work together to develop a Network as a Service (NaaS) platform deploying end-to-end CAMARA QoD services for Cloud AR/VR gaming relying on a F5G-Advanced access and transport network with autonomous service management. The ISG ZSM PoC project will focus on the end-to-end service orchestration and cross-domain integration, while the F5G PoC project will focus on the F5G-A network management domain, which manages and operates both the optical access and transport networks.
ISG ZSM and ISG F5G will cooperate closely together in the research, PoC demonstration and standardization of optical network automation and autonomy.
