ETSI Open Source MANO announces Release FIVE, 5G ready

ETSI is excited to announce the availability of OSM Release FIVE.
This new Release is a huge step towards 5G network deployments and their end-to-end orchestration by telecom operators. In Release FIVE, OSM extends its orchestration capabilities beyond virtual domains, expanding them across transport networks; as well as physical and hybrid network elements. All this is done in a technology-agnostic fashion, enabled by the enrichment of its existing plugin framework towards transport technologies and a consistent modelling of Network Functions.

OSM Release FIVE has embraced a new micro-service architecture to facilitate the integration of an impressive number of new features, making Release FIVE an ideal choice for 5G scenarios, distributed and Edge deployments, and any kind of Network as a Service (NaaS) offer.
Thus, among a large number of new features, the OSM Release FIVE stands out by bringing complete support of 5G Network Slices; dynamic creation of inter-datacentre connections across heterogeneous Wide Area Networks (WAN), extended support of Service Function Chaining (SFC); policy-based closed loop control, extended monitoring capabilities, including VNF metrics collection; and support of physical and hybrid network functions, (PNFs and HNFs respectively).
In addition, Release FIVE includes significant enhancements in terms of user experience, such as a brand new GUI-based Composer for network functions and services, an improved dashboard for logs, metrics and alarms, and much faster start-up and responsiveness.

While continuing the alignment and feedback to ETSI NFV, this Release brings significant improvements in terms of maturity, supported use cases, reliability and design-time tools, allowing the modelling and operation of all kinds of complex network services.
Join us at the next OSM Hackfest
OSM is organizing its 5th Hackfest event from 4 to 8 February in Barcelona. The event will be hosted by CTTC in Castelldefels, Barcelona, co-located with the OSM Mid-Release SIX meeting and a SonataNFV Hackfest. This hackfest, the first to one fully feature OSM Release FIVE, will offer a great opportunity to share and learn with OSM users, developers and module leaders, and explore further opportunities for synergy and collaboration with 5G research activities. Participation into OSM Hackfests is free and open to all upon registration.
Large and mature ecosystem
ETSI Open Source MANO now benefits from a wide and mature ecosystem of distributors, Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) and Virtual Infrastructure Managers (VIMs) providers. The ecosystem also includes consulting, integration and training providers as well as a large number of research activities that are actively contributing input and feedback to the project.
