Sophia Antipolis, 31 March 2025
ETSI and TTA, the Telecommunication Technology Association of South Korea, are pleased to announce the renewal of their cooperation agreement. The signing ceremony, held on 25 March at ETSI’s facilities, was attended by Mr. Seung-hyun Son, President of TTA and Mr. Jan Ellsberger, ETSI Director-General. This agreement reaffirms a partnership that dates back to 1992, evolving from an initial Memorandum of Understanding to the current, robust Cooperation Agreement.
This agreement is one of a kind as it enables both ETSI and TTA, on a reciprocal basis, to adopt each other’s deliverables, demonstrating the mutual trust and shared vision they have developed over the years. TTA has adopted numerous ETSI standards since 2005 and future collaboration will focus on key areas such as Cybersecurity, Data, Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, and Quantum-Safe Cryptography.
During this ceremony, Mr. Jan Ellsberger, was invited to participate in GISC 2025, Korea’s largest ICT standardization event. The event attracts over 100 international experts annually to discuss both strategic and technical topics vital to the future of technology standardization.
As one of the Korea’s national standardization organizations (NSOs), TTA plays an active role in supporting the Korean government’s policy objectives, particularly in fostering international standardization and engaging the next generations in this process. ETSI is highly involved in these efforts through its Education about Standardization programme.
The renewal of this cooperation agreement comes shortly after the EU and the Republic of Korea concluded negotiations for a landmark Digital Trade Agreement (DTA) on March 10, 2025. The longstanding partnership between ETSI and TTA reflects the shared values that form the foundations of the EU-Republic of Korea digital partnership. Together, ETSI and TTA standards will continue to drive innovation and ensure security in an increasingly digital world.
