The ETSI Work Programme showcases the ongoing efforts of our Technical Committees (TCs), Industry Specification Groups (ISGs), and Software Development Groups (SDGs), shaped by European standardisation mandates and the goals of our 900+ members.

Our strategy is built on three pillars: a sharper technology focus, broader stakeholder engagement, and improved organisational efficiency. We’re aligning our standards work with emerging areas like data, Artificial Intelligence, and quantum computing. We’re also adapting to a digital-first world, where future standards may be machine-readable code defining an API rather than a traditional text-based document.

New initiatives include a Technical Committee on Data, supporting the EU Data Governance Act, and increased focus on horizontal topics like AI and quantum technologies, which impact cryptography, cybersecurity, and networking. Our ISG on Multiple Access Techniques is exploring innovations for 6G mobile systems, building on 3GPP specifications.

In cybersecurity, we’re expanding on our foundational work — such as baseline requirements for consumer IoT and the Securing AI committee — to address the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), in effect since December 2024. This regulation imposes strict cybersecurity obligations on ICT product manufacturers and operators.

Our Software Development Groups are becoming key innovation hubs. For example, SDG OpenOP is developing an open operator platform to federate European 6G test infrastructures.

This Work Programme reflects the scale and diversity of ETSI’s standardisation activities and our involvement in partnerships and open-source projects that serve diverse industries across Europe and beyond.

We’ve also published our 2024 Annual Report, which provides a comprehensive overview of our technical work, partnerships, interoperability events, deliverables, and financials. With nearly 4 000 standards, specifications and other deliverables released, 2024 marked a record year, and continues to support innovation across industries all over the world.
