Sophia Antipolis, 25 March 2015

ETSI and GISFI, the Global ICT Standardization Forum for India (www.gisfi.org) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to align their work on development, promotion and education concerning ICT standardization in India.

The agreement was signed at the ETSI General Assembly held on 17 and 18 March 2015 in ETSI, France. GISFI has well established itself in the Indian standardization landscape through its two branches: R&D/Education and Standardization in the area of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).Signature-GISF-collaboration2015

Through its R&D/Education branch, it serves as a platform for raising an awareness of the importance of international standards through providing higher education (Ph.D.) scholarships and intensive collaborations with leading Indian and European Universities as part of capacity building for indigenous Indian contribution to international standardization and globalization of ICT products and services.

Through the standardization branch, GISFI is active in ICT related application areas, such as energy, telemedicine, wireless robotics or biotechnology.

ETSI has been collaborating with GISFI since its inception through the exchange of information on the respective work programs. ETSI will also collaborate in the "Education about Standardization" field.

Prof. Ramjee Prasad, GISFI Chair stated: “With this agreement we intend to build a bridge between European and Indian ICT standards as ETSI is involved in various innovative areas beyond telecommunications”.

The signed MoU will allow GISFI to participate in relevant ETSI Technical Bodies as an observer when the agenda contains items of mutual interest and vice versa for ETSI as observer in GISFI Technical Committees.
