The ETSI TeraFlowSDN community is proud to announce the third release of TeraFlowSDN, an innovative and robust SDN orchestrator and controller, delivering a fully featured Network Automation Platform. In this latest release, TeraFlowSDN enhances its capabilities with the integration of an Optical SDN controller, expanding device support to include gNMI and OpenConfig protocols. It also features enriched network integrations for end-to-end orchestration like IP over DWDM, L3VPN, MEC, and network topology exposure. The management of network topologies is improved with the addition of a new BGP-LS speaker able to discover the topologies, and a new Forecaster component is introduced, providing predictive insights for network management. These additions substantially augment the versatility and management capabilities of the TeraFlowSDN platform.

Overall, TeraFlowSDN Release 3 brings the following array of new features and improvements:

  • Integration of an Optical SDN Controller facilitating the control and management of optical network devices, including fully programmable ROADMs and transceivers. TeraFlowSDN now is able to provide end-to-end connectivity services across multiple domains, including TeraFlowSDN-controlled optical and IP SDN domains.
  • Extended support for disaggregated networks: TeraFlowSDN Release 3 enables broader device support including the latest protocols such as gNMI and OpenConfig, facilitating seamless integration and improved management capabilities across diverse network devices.
  • Advanced Network Integrations: TeraFlowSDN supports now comprehensive end-to-end orchestration capabilities for configurations including IP over DWDM, L3VPN, Mobile Edge Computing (MEC), and exposes network topology for more dynamic management.
  • Includes a new BGP-LS speaker to discover and automate onboarding of devices and links in pre-deployed topologies. Improved Network Topology allowing for more efficient and reliable network operations. Enhanced Device and Policy Configurations: The platform now supports additional device types and offers refined policy configurations that enhance system adaptability and user control.
  • Robustness and Performance Enhancements: This release also includes numerous bug fixes and component enhancements, ensuring greater system performance and reliability.

TeraFlowSDN is designed to meet the evolving needs of modern networks, providing scalable, reliable, and efficient solutions that transform network automation. The platform's new functionalities facilitate a more intuitive and proactive approach to network operations, ensuring that enterprises and service providers can achieve optimal performance and strategic advantage in their network automation.

TFS#4 Hackfest

The TeraFlowSDN Community will meet on 21 and 22 May 2024 in Athens for their 4th Hackfest which will be focusing on Network Discovery, Inventory Management and Telemetry using some of the new Features delivered with Release 3. Participants will be able to experiment and advance their skills in network automation and new technologies such as BGP Speaker and gNMI. Participation is free of charge and open to all upon registration, but seats are limited.

SDG TeraFlowSDN

After 2 years of existence at ETSI, TeraFlowSDN has been recently renewed as a Software Development Group (SDG), to facilitate collaboration with other ETSI SDGs and open-source projects, ensuring the sharing of best practices, joint activities, and reuse of components. SDG TFS will continue collaborating and supporting PoC activities with ETSI ISGs, such as MEC, F5G, and QKD and seeking for synergies with external fora and open-source projects such as TIP, LF CAMARA and LFE Sylva.
