Chief Policy Officer (M/F)

ETSI’s management structure is led by the Director General, who oversees the Secretariat and reports to the General Assembly and the Board. The newly created position of Chief Policy Officer (CPO) will be reporting directly to the Director General. This management structure is designed to support ETSI’s strategic goals by fostering effective collaboration across technical committees and external stakeholders, ensuring ETSI’s continued leadership in European and global ICT standardisation efforts.

Mission

As a senior leader within ETSI (CxO), the Chief Policy Officer drives and manages ETSI’s engagement with European policy makers and industry associations. He also manages ETSI’s strategic collaboration with other Standard Developing Organizations (SDOs).

The Chief Policy Officer assumes a management level position which includes the following key responsibilities:

  • Manage relations with Policy Makers
  • Manage relations with European trade and industry associations
  • Ensure coordination of technical activities with related public policy activities and regulatory authorities
  • Establish relationships with external bodies and promote the work of ETSI as appropriate
  • Build collaboration with other SDOs and Fora for the coordinated development of standards
  • Manage public consultations
  • Oversee involvement in and execution of cooperation and outreach projects
  • Manage the staff in the department

Profile

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum of 15 years of leadership experience in the ICT sector; management experience in an international environment preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in ICT standards; knowledge of standards development processes and the global standards landscape for ICT
  • Minimum 5 years of experience with European standardisation policy development and having a broad contact network across EC Services, governments and industry & trade associations
  • Minimum of MS/MBA degree in a technical/computer science field
  • Demonstrated leadership skills: ability to manage, motivate, and integrate committees and teams to achieve their mission and objectives
  • Results oriented and a strong team player; dynamic and self-driven
  • Excellent interpersonal, problem solving, organizational, negotiation, decision making, oral/written communications, consensus-building and meeting facilitation skills
  • Ability to understand and relate to different cultures, i.e., culturally sensitive
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse audiences and personalities and diffuse difficult situations with tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent English language skills – both oral and written
  • Ability to travel internationally

The position is based in Brussels, Belgium.
