ETSI releases first O-RAN specification

ETSI and O-RAN are pleased to announce that ETSI has adopted the first O-RAN specification as ETSI TS 103 859, namely ‘O-RAN Fronthaul Control, User and Synchronization Plane Specification v7.02’. The document focuses on Open Fronthaul, one of the interfaces in the O-RAN Architecture for open and intelligent Radio Access Networks. It specifies the control plane, user plane and synchronization plane protocols used over the fronthaul interface linking the O-DU (O-RAN Distributed Unit) and the O-RU (O-RAN Radio Unit) for the lower layer functional splits. The scope of TS 103 859 includes both LTE and NR (5G).

ETSI releases new Report on IPv6-based Blockchain

ETSI has just released ETSI GR IPE 012, a new IPv6 Enhanced innovation (IPE) Group Report “IPv6-based Blockchain”. The report outlines how IPv6 can be utilized by blockchain networks to secure direct peer-to-peer payments between end users, as well as the potential future role of IPv6 as vital infrastructure, supporting the blockchain.

ETSI Encrypted Traffic Integration group extends term to work on cryptographic and key management models

ETSI eSignature testing event helps industry to comply with EU regulation

With the eIDAS Regulation, European Union Member States have put in place the necessary technical means to process electronically signed documents that are required when using an online service offered by, or on behalf of, a public sector body. In order to ensure that the cross-border dimension works in practice, testing needs to be done to mutually check Member States’ signatures against their existing digital signature validation applications.

ETSI simplifies ICT end-users’ lives with a guide available in 19 European languages

ETSI is pleased to announce the new version of the ETSI Guide EG 203 499, developed by experts from the Human Factors Technical Committee. The guide aims to further simplify end-user access to ICT devices, services and applications by providing recommended terms for basic and commonly used ICT-related objects and activities, notably the terms that end users are commonly exposed to.

ETSI OSM launches Release TWELVE, with enhanced Network Function resiliency and runtime operations

ETSI OSM is pleased to announce OSM Release TWELVE, the second Long Term Support release of ETSI Open Source MANO and one of its most prolific releases. One of the main new features of Release TWELVE is the ability to heal network functions that may be affected by any kind of infrastructure failure. This healing process, which may be triggered either manually or automatically depending on operator preference, can be applied in all the clouds supported by OSM, in line with OSM’s multi-cloud approach.

ETSI and MIPI Alliance Announce Incorporation of MIPI I3C Basic into ETSI Smart Secure Platform

I3C Interface for SSP provides higher data rate and improved integration flexibility with decreased power consumption

The MIPI Alliance, an international organization that develops interface specifications for mobile and mobile-influenced industries, and ETSI Technical Committee Secure Element Technologies (TC SET) today announced the adoption of the I3C Interface for SSP (ETSI TS 103 818) specification, allowing the MIPI I3C Basic specification to serve as a physical and logical link layer for the ETSI Smart Secure Platform (SSP). The I3C Interface for SSP joins the family of specifications that underpin the ETSI SSP, the next-generation platform for Universal Subscriber Identity Module (USIM) and Secure Elements to meet new market requirements driven by emerging Internet of Things (IoT), 5G and other security-sensitive applications.

ETSI releases new specification on Quality of Service for F5G

The ETSI's 5^th-Generation Fixed Network group (F5G ISG) has released a new specification, ETSI GS F5G 005 on “High-Quality Service Experience Factors”. This specification studies the end-to-end Quality of Experience (QoE) factors for services over the broadband network. High QoE reflects the overall performance of services from the end user's perspective. It also analyses the general factors that impact service performance and identifies the overall high-QoE dimensions for each service, mainly using Virtual Reality (VR) as a benchmark for F5G applications.
