ETSI Non-IP Networks releases first Reports

The ETSI Non-IP Networking group (ISG NIN) has just released its first three Group Reports. The first one, ETSI GR NIN 001, details the shortcomings of TCP/IP for fixed and mobile networks; the second Report, ETSI GR NIN 002, considers testing Non-IP Networking over 5G cellular Radio Access Networks; and ETSI GR NIN 003 describes the networking model that is the foundation for the new technology.

‘Designing tomorrow’s world’: ETSI introduces its new strategy in line with its ambitious vision

Today ETSI is pleased to introduce its new strategy, the result of an intensive development process over the last months, validated at the ETSI General Assembly in December 2020.

Titled ‘Designing tomorrow’s world’, the strategy builds on a recognition of the global importance of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for a sustainable development and to support the digital transformation of society.

ETSI enables intercontinental testing for next-generation emergency communications

ETSI has successfully completed its international emergency communications interoperability testing event. 285 test pairings, with 87% demonstrating interoperability, were run from 22 February to 5 March 2021, both in Europe and across the Atlantic to assess the compatibility of products for mission-critical public safety services. This remote event was a cooperation between ETSI, EENA, the European Emergency Number Association and for the first time NENA, the 9-1-1 Association.

ETSI standard to secure digital signatures solves issue for 4,000 banks

ETSI is pleased to unveil ETSI TS 119 182-1, a specification for digital signatures supported by PKI and public key certificates which authenticates the origin of transactions ensuring that the originator can be held accountable and access to sensitive resources can be controlled.

ETSI releases Middlebox Security Protocols specification for fine-grained access control

ETSI is pleased to announce a new specification, ETSI TS 103 523-2: Transport Layer MSP (TLMSP), Part 2 of the Middlebox Security Protocol (MSP) series, which defines a protocol for varied (fine-grained) access control to communications traffic. This specification was developed by the ETSI Technical Committee CYBER.

ETSI’s CTO granted the prestigious award of Wireless World Research Forum

During WWRF 45th meeting ETSI’s Chief Technical Officer (CTO), Adrian Scrase, has been granted the prestigious award of the Wireless World Research Forum in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of mobile communications standards, and for his longstanding support of the work of WWRF.

ETSI blockchain group releases first Reports, targeting industry and governmental bodies

The ETSI Industry Specification Group on Permissioned Distributed Ledger (ISG PDL) has recently released a number of Reports to support industry and government institutions needs for what is commonly known as blockchain. These Reports cover data record compliance to regulation, application scenarios and smart contracts.  

Highlights of the Cybersecurity Standardization Conference

The European Standards Organizations, CEN, CENELEC and ETSI, joined forces with ENISA, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity, to organize its annual conference virtually this year. The event, which took place from 2 to 4 February, attracted over 2000 participants from the EU and from around the world.

ETSI unveils its Report comparing worldwide COVID-19 contact-tracing systems – a first step toward interoperability

The COVID-19 pandemic has stretched the planet’s health systems to their limits and tested the measures adopted to alleviate difficulties. Contact tracking or tracing to identify infected people has been one such example. However, contact tracing based on interviews with identified or suspected patients presents known weaknesses from previous pandemics. Turning to digital means in a world where global mobility is the rule was therefore of the essence.

ETSI launches new group on IPv6 Enhanced Innovation
